Kool Katz Surf School is owned by Terry Hannon, known as "Tezza", who has more than 50 years of surfing experience and 30 years of instructing and guiding, and it operates under a licence covering the Ballina, New South Wales area, running lessons around Lennox Head (a National Surfing Reserve), the Messingham Bridge area and Flatrock reef, as well as out of Byron Bay.
